Hurwitz is head of the eclectic record label Nonesuch which features acts ranging from Broadway shows to world music. Having worked as a journalist and PR before moving into music production at Columbia Records, he took over Nonesuch in the early 1980s. Credited as the driving force behind the label's diverse repertoire, he has fostered the careers of artists in disparate genres, including David Byrne, Stephen Sondheim, the Buena Vista Social Club and Wilco.
