Historian of contemporary Japan, (SOAS)
Christopher Gerteis is an historian of modern and contemporary Japan at SOAS, London. Having studied as an undergraduate in the industrial city of Hamamatsu during the late 1980s, he went on to Meiji University in Tokyo and the University of Iowa. He has written about a range of issues in contemporary Japanese culture, ranging from the political to the social, and is currently working on two new projects examining the intersection of consumer capitalism, social history, and the politics of culture and identity in contemporary Japan.
