Gianni Riotta's prolific career in journalism has seen him work for the Italian papers Il Manifesto, the Journal of Sicily, La Stampa, L'Espresso and Corriere della Sera as well as for the New York Times, Washington Post, Le Monde and Foreign Policy. In September 2006 he joined Italy's state-owned television broadcaster RAI as a director in the news division but resigned in March 2009 to become the editor in chief of Il Sole 24 Ore.
