3 DRINK: GLOBAL

—Billecart-Salmon Champagne

Whether you’re celebrating the start of spring or just feel like sipping some bubbly this weekend, we recommend you pop a bottle of Billecart-Salmon. Their award-winning Cuvée Nicolas Francois Billecart 2000, bears the name of the House’s creator who began the business in 1818. The 1959 vintage was voted Champagne of the Millennium at a blind tasting organised by champagne writer Richard Juhlin in Stockholm. For this particular batch, they recommend decanting before drinking so that the subtleties of its flavour can really be appreciated.

4 EXHIBITION: LOS ANGELES

—Elad Lassry at David Kordansky Gallery

This weekend David Kordansky Gallery in Los Angeles welcomes the new exhibition of Tel Aviv-born Elad Lassry. In his latest works, Lassry challenges art’s limitations, playing with the physical relationships between photos and their frames. His installations reflect his exploration of how individuals approach drawing, sculpture and performance art. Lassry uses the gallery as a tool, having used members of New York City Ballet in past shows. He is an artist determined to immerse the viewer in his work.

David Kordansky Gallery, 3143 S. La Cienega Boulevard. Open Tuesday to Saturday, 11.00-18.00. Until 26 May

5 MUSIC: GLOBAL

—Tanlines: Mixed Emotions

This Brooklyn duo build on the dreamy, synth-led current flavours of the month, by ditching the echoey navel-gazing and constructing some actual songs instead. Pop songs. Unashamedly so. There’s hints of David Byrne and Talking Heads in Tanlines’ chart-bothering back to basics approach. And like those former demi-gods of NY cool, Tanlines have been sharing singable songs with an artfully selected clientele, French label Kitsune released an early single and the Strokes’ Julian Casablancas is a fan. Let’s hope they can learn to embrace the resolute uncoolness of arena-filling success that surely awaits.
