Stockholm

As the biggest city in Scandinavia, Stockholm is the scene for many major fairs and conferences. In Monocle's 2008 quality of life survey, the city made it to No.7, and for good reason. Add proximity to nature and a bustling city centre to the stylish Swedes, and you have a very pleasant city for both business and leisure.

Essentials

01 Remember to pack warm clothes, regardless of the season. Swedish summers are lovely but treacherous.
02 If travelling in the summer, also bring an eye mask for the light nights.
03 Knowing a few Swedish words will make a good impression. Hello is hej, goodbye hejdå.
04 That said, most Stockholmers are very international, so English will work fine.
05 Swedes are quite informal, but they're still Scandinavian, so a firm handshake is the best way to greet somebody.
