F&B and Retail Operations Manager

We are on the hunt for an experienced retail and hospitality manager to lead Monocle’s new venture, opening in Culver City, Los Angeles in August 2018.

You will manage operations for The Monocle Shop, which stocks current and back issues of the magazine, a selection of international press and a collection of exclusive products developed with our favourite companies and craftsmen around the world.

Also on the premises, with both indoor and terrace seating, The Monocle Café will offer excellent barista coffee, premium pastries and savouries, and a selection of wines, beers and cocktails from early morning to evening.


You will be responsible for leading the day-to-day business, with tasks including:

– Oversee retail and café operations and staff; monitor and prioritise workflow and rota
– Ensure monthly sales quotas are met
– Maintain excellent service standards
– Keep the shop merchandised to the highest standard
– Manage stock inventory
– Manage the selection, training and development of staff
– Ensure that health & hygiene best practices are monitored and maintained at all times

You will also need to:

– Identify and action commercial opportunities
– Regularly report on shop performance
– Work closely with suppliers to maintain quality, consistency and price
– Ensure that all service equipment is maintained and functioning correctly
– Be an ambassador for the brand and connect with our client base


– Proven retail and hospitality management experience with a focus on delivering excellent customer service and maintaining brand standards
– Ability to implement Monocle’s retail and F&B strategy
– Commercial awareness and strong business acumen
– Team-player mentality with a hands-on approach
– Strong communication, interpersonal skills and attention to detail
– Fluency in English, knowledge of an additional language would be an advantage
