It was good news in general for the airline industry as the 2010 Farnborough Air Show took place this week – coming on the heels of the International Air Transport Association’s prediction that the industry would turn a profit of €1.94bn in 2010. The show saw orders for hundreds of new aircraft worth tens of billions of euros. Passenger and cargo traffic was up in June and the mood around the airfield reflected this. Most major manufacturers, both commercial and military, were represented. Monocle travelled to Farnborough to take it all in – and to get a firsthand glimpse of Boeing’s new 787.
