Pitti Uomo 91: day three

As the autumn/winter 2017 edition of Pitti Uomo draws to a close and the fashion pack heads north to Milan, we select our final five finds from the Fortezza da Basso.

TS(S)

Takuji Suzuki, the man behind Tokyo label TS(S), creates clothes that are inspired by vintage workwear pieces but incorporate a refined touch. His autumn/winter 2017 collection is filled with gems. There are elegant checked overcoats, a shearling-lined jacket in navy and our pick of the lot: this slouchy cardigan, which is woven from a super-soft cotton waffle.

Woolrich

Famous for its fur-lined hooded parkas, outerwear company Woolrich is making its first foray into footwear. Models are inspired by either the city or the great outdoors – and include these mountain-ready boots. All are made in Italy and have sturdy Vibram soles.

La Paz

Many of the factories that La Paz works with are a short hop from its offices in Porto – yet for this jacket the brand has employed a workshop on the mountain range of Serra de Estrela. Here, Shetland wool is woven on centenary looms for a design that is inspired by granddad’s wardrobe.

Larose x The Gigi

Parisian hatter Larose has teamed up with Lombardy designer The Gigi to create a playful hat capsule. The small yet sharp collection of caps, beanies and bucket hats is emblazoned with the words “Don’t Look Back” and made from exclusive fabrics designed by The Gigi, based on its suiting and jacket materials. All are made in France.

Danton

This French workwear brand has been making everything from overalls to chef aprons since 1931; it has even supplied public bodies such as the Paris Métro with their gear. In the past couple of years, however, Tokyo's Boy’s Co has redesigned the thick woollen jackets and distributed them exclusively throughout Japan; from 2017 they will be sold in Europe.
