EXHIBITION: LONDON

Hans-Peter Feldmann

This weekend the Simon Lee Gallery in London's Mayfair throws open its doors to the work of Düsseldorf-based visual artist Hans-Peter Feldmann. With a variety of nudes, portraits, seascapes and installations, these conceptual pieces explore the artist's fascination with subverting traditional art by humorously altering it. Changes include censoring nudes with black bars and adding red noses or black eyes to transform once-austere portraits into absurd caricatures. The current exhibition follows Feldmann's successful solo shows at the Serpentine Gallery in London and BAWAG Contemporary in Vienna last year.

Simon Lee Gallery, 12 Berkeley Street. Monday to Saturday, 10.00 to 18.00. Until 8 May.simonleegallery.com

ART/FASHION: TOKYO

Fendi – Un Art Autre/Another kind of art: Creation and innovation in craftsmanship

Fendi is renowned for its high fashion and luxury but little is known of its modest start as a small leather-goods and fur workshop in Rome. In this exhibition, supported by Tokyo University of the Arts, the famed fashion house takes us on a retrospective journey of traditional Italian design and craftsmanship. On display is a collection of sketches and blueprints alongside the brand’s most iconic items from the 1970s onwards as well as a space dedicated to fur, including a workshop with skilled artisans that reveals the creative process of fur-garment making.

University Art Museum, Tokyo University of the Arts exhibition, rooms 3 and 4. 12-8 Ueno Park, Taito-ku. Open Tuesday to Sunday 10.00-17.00. Closed on Mondays (but open on Monday 29 April). Until 29 April.geidai.ac.jp

SP-Arte 2013

The ninth edition of the São Paulo’s International Art Fair (or SP-Arte) opened earlier this week, showcasing the best selection of over 120 Brazilian and international contemporary galleries. Local highlights include São Paulo’s Vermelho Gallery featuring print artist Jonathas de Andrade and the Sergio Gonçalves Galeria from Rio de Janeiro, representing Spanish photographer Carlos Aires. Of course, stalwarts such as New York’s Gagosian Gallery, London’s White Cube and Tokyo-based Kaikai Kiki won’t be missing out on all the fun. Be sure to stop by the Editorial cluster, a special part of the fair dedicated to art magazines and artists’ books.

Pavilhão Ciccillo Matarazzo 2222. Parque do Ibirapuera Portão 3. Open Saturday to Sunday, 12.00-20.00. Until 7 April.sp-arte.com

EXHIBITION: PARIS

Vincent William Gagliostro

Parisian Galerie NeC nilsson et chiglien plays host to the works of New York artist Vincent William Gagliostro. Inspired by American painter and printmaker Frank Stella’s minimalist saying of "What you see is what you see”, Gagliostro (who is a graduate from design school Parsons) deploys a brash combination of clashing colours and conflicting materials – from Bible paper to wood – for his flamboyant art.

Galerie NeC nilsson et chiglien. 20 rue des Coutures Saint Gervais. Open Tuesday to Friday, 13.00-19.00. Saturday 12.00-19.00. Until 11 May.galerienec.com
