We round up the exhibitions that took place outside Regent’s Park during last week’s Frieze Fair in London. We stop by White Cube to speak to Christian Marclay, take in a one-night-only show based around the rising and setting of the sun and check out Almine Rech's shiny new gallery in Mayfair.

Chapter 1

Christian Marclay at White Cube

Cover art for Culture with Robert Bound

Christian Marclay has been rather busy recently. When he isn’t snapping images of straws and bottle tops found on the street he’s collaborating on albums and interpretive musical performances that explore the relationship between audio and visual. Last week Marclay was at White Cube, where one of his latest works was being beamed onto a large white wall in front of the Bermondsey gallery. While the projectionists were busy setting up, Robert Bound caught up with the artist.

Robert Bound heads underground to Basement Gallery, located under Carousel restaurant just around the corner from Midori House. For one night only last week this subterranean space showed an exhibition called ‘The Blue Hour’, which united pieces by six artists working in different mediums. So what is ‘The Blue Hour’? Luckily curator Rowena Chiu was on hand to talk us through it.

We head to Almine Rech’s new outpost in Mayfair, located on Grosvenor Hill. The French art dealer opened the space, which isn’t a million miles away from her pre-existing London gallery, to coincide with Frieze week. Rech has selected Jeff Koons for her inaugural exhibition and on show are a series of works that conceptualise classic western paintings and incorporate the viewer via a big blue “gazing ball”. Rech speaks to Robert Bound.
