There is no reason why dog accessories such as beds and bowls shouldn’t hold their own under a Hans Wegner table in a Bulthaup kitchen. Underwhelmed by the number of attractive dog feeders and bowls that fit in with his own interior aesthetic, US architect Jon Wesley Rahman decided to design his own. The resulting raised food and water bowl combination is a smart antidote to spillages and will sit well in any ergonomic environment. A wooden pooch pedestal that would give Santiago Calatrava a run for his moulded money is the latest addition to the family. Bowl and bed come in walnut veneer.

Artist and dog fanatic William Wegman has teamed up with dog product designer Isabella Cane and hard-wearing fabric manufacturer Crypton, to produce a range of beds, leads, collars and blankets. Each piece features a Wegman illustration and the collection comes in a variety of styles and colours. Our favourite is this soft bed with a portion of proceeds going to Weimaraner Rescue in aid of his favourite breed.

We’ve all seen the eyes, heard the whine and felt the tug under the table, but as responsible dog owners, we’d never feed him from the table. Yeah, right. These nutritional snacks will help keep the wolf from the door, so to speak. Mungo & Maud’s Organic Pumpkin Biscuits are a particular favourite and Giraffe’s natural variety are perfect for less exotic palates.

When Monocle swung by for some canine inspiration, we couldn’t resist this Black Ribbon collar and lead set with saddlery trim and brass fittings.

Three Dog Bakery

Dan Dye and Mark Beckloff’s Three Dog Bakery is still serving up the world’s best (and possibly only) freshly baked dog biscuits. But it wasn’t the sweet treats that took our fancy. On entering the Tokyo franchise of TDB, we spotted an ingenious poop-scooping kit with a mini polythene bag dispenser and a sturdy pouch to double-bag doggie’s little “donation”.

Hoochi & Arudo, named after the owner’s dogs, of course, is one of Tokyo’s best dog boutiques selling a mind-boggling range of pooch products. Need a gingham neckerchief for Rufus, a crocodile-skin collar for Hero or a tartan carry cot for Molly? Then make your way to Chuo-ku to bag the lot. We’re not fans of dressing up our pets, but we think this olive raincoat is a necessary exception for late April showers.

Not many media outlets can claim to be “the voice of modern dog culture,” but Bark and its online affiliate The Bark Unleashed certainly deserve a pat on the back for their imaginative and engaging content. You’d expect regular features on obedience and healthcare, but where Bark succeeds is with alternative subjects: expect a Fido-friendly travel feature and even the ins and outs of pet law.
