Cerchio Ghisallo – Scooter
Cyclists flock to Magreglio above Lake Como to visit the shrine of their patron saint and to call in at Ghisallo, a workshop that handcrafts bicycle rims out of wood. “We use Croatian beech as it’s free of knots and elastic,” explains the owner Giovanni Cermenati, who has a loyal following – veteran cycling champion Fiorenzo Magni is a fan. Two-wheel enthusiasts can choose frames for city streets or country lanes or scoot about on one of these classic kick-scooters.

British designer Mark Holmes’s new Minimalux range includes solid brass pen holders, salt and pepper shakers and egg cups finished in silver or 24 carat gold.

Repsol – Wine guide
In the tradition of the Michelin guide, and in keeping with the motoring theme, Spanish oil and gas company Repsol produces a Spanish road map and supplementary restaurant guide. This year’s English edition includes information about regional dishes and a handbook to the best Spanish wines, detailing more than 700 wineries.

Växbo Lin – Dishcloths
Swedish linen specialist Växbo Lin is the only firm left in Scandinavia that weaves its own textiles. With designer Ingela Berntsson it manufactures dishcloths, tablecloths, napkins and towels from a small factory in Hälsingland. These lint free floorcloths are 100 per cent linen, which absorbs and dries moisture more efficiently than any other fibre, making it perfect for mopping up those muddy paw prints.

Artari: coffee
Family-run Italian coffee purveyor Artari makes its house blend from five Arabica varieties sourced from plantations in Brazil and Central America. Beans are roasted manually, ground, then packaged into retro tins.

Tired of lugging heavy laptops around in transit? Sony’s VAIO P series PC is currently the lightest in the world, weighing in at a mere 635g. Pilot – Ink
Japan’s largest pen manufacturer Pilot has released Iroshizuku bottled inks in 14 colours that reflect nature. Ajisai (hydrangea) is a peacock- hued royal blue, yu-yake (sunset) is amber and yama-budo (mountain grape), a deep purple.
