Special K

Germany [AIRPORT RETAIL]

The star attraction of Hamburg airport’s new retail plaza, which now connects its two terminals is bookshop K Presse + Buch. The chain is owned by market leader Valora Retail, which provides commuters with their daily media fixes at 206 outlets in Germany’s airports and train stations. This flagship branch stocks over 4,500 magazines and newspapers, over half of which are specialist publications.

If you can’t find a newspaper title on the shelves you can get one printed for you. Its print-on-demand service (pictured) is Germany’s first and offers over 700 titles from 70 countries at the touch of a button.

Extended Stay

Tokyo [BUSINESS HOTEL]

Business hotels run by the Tokyu Corporation are a staple of cities in Japan and now the chain has opened an upmarket version of its basic format in the middle of Tokyo. The location of the Tokyu Stay Aoyama Premier is better than many of the city’s five-star hotels – a short walk from prime shopping in Omotesando and Harajuku – and rooms are a fraction of the price. The adjacent shopping centre has good restaurants and a branch of Japanese toiletries brand Marks & Web.
