Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the largest mosque in the UAE and one of the top ten in the world, but to call it just a place of worship doesn’t fully capture its significance. This architectural masterpiece embodies the vision of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the nation’s founding father, and the core values upon which he built the UAE: unity, tolerance and respect for all cultures. Visitors encounter outstanding examples of Islamic civilisation’s achievements in science and art, reflected in the mosque’s design, which harmoniously blends various eras of Islamic architectural heritage. The mosque contains more than 30 types of natural marble sourced from various countries, while a special highlight is the hand-knotted carpet in the main prayer hall. Spanning 5,400 sq m, it is the largest ever made, though you would expect nothing less from such a monumental construction.
