Elevated leisure
Where wellness, gastronomy and outdoor adventure meet, South Tyrol sets a high bar for hospitality.
South Tyrol attracts discerning visitors who come primarily for its location. About 70 per cent of the province’s territory is mountainous but outdoor enthusiasts are not the only travellers to fall in love with the region. Wellness seekers, gastronomy and wine lovers, culture hounds and eco-conscious tourists all make a beeline for this 7,400 sq km bolthole in the Alps. The hospitality sector welcomes more than 37 million overnight stays annually, making it one of Europe’s leading mountain destinations. The region is home to more than 12,000 accommodation providers while the culinary offering includes 20 Michelin-starred restaurants and seven with a Michelin green star for sustainable gastronomy.

Wellness and health tourism is also one of the province’s biggest draws. With 500 properties dedicated to balancing mind and body, South Tyrol provides something for everyone. For those with a healthy budget, there are many desirable temples to wellbeing. Snow enthusiasts who crave a ski-in, ski-out health lodge are well catered for in the Dolomites, while the homely villas of Meran/Merano or Lana are hard to beat anywhere in the world – and at any time of the year.
