That philosophy is at the heart of the Saadiyat Cultural District’s teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi – a technicolour wonderland of bright lights, uncanny exhibits and immersive experiences.

It’s the first purpose-built venue from the Tokyo-based art collective known for its daring use of technology to create new ways of experiencing and interacting with art. There’s no red tape or protective glass here. Instead, visitors explore the artworks from the inside, whether that means wandering through the towering trees of a forest of ever-changing light and sound or wading barefoot through exhibits filled with glistening orbs. The playful nature of the works, coupled with their technological complexity and scale, elicits childlike glee from visitors of all ages.
