Muntagnard: The Swiss wardrobe built to last
Switzerland’s watches, architecture, design and even national airline communicate a language of precision and confidence. Yet few Swiss labels have successfully applied that discipline to clothing – until now.
Dario Pirovino and Dario Grünenfelder set out to change this. In 2018, the duo founded Muntagnard, a brand built around a simple proposition: a wardrobe whose clarity convinces today and still feels relevant tomorrow. The two founders were new to fashion. Previously, they had advised companies on sustainability and strategy, until the gap between consulting and creating became too wide to ignore. “We wanted to build something ourselves,” says Pirovino. “To understand every step of a supply chain firsthand and learn what it really takes to create a physical product that meets the standards we had recommended to others. Clothing felt like the right choice.”

The pair founded the brand in the Swiss Alpine canton of Graubünden. Muntagnard means “people from the mountains” in Romansh, an ancient local language that also informs the names of the collection’s three material families: LANA for wool, MANGOLA for cotton and LEGNA for wood-based fibres. “They’re soft and temperatureregulating,” says Grünenfelder of the latter. “The fabric feels like a second skin.”
All of Muntagnard’s natural materials are carefully chosen for exceptional quality and comfort, with full traceability back to their source. This same commitment to longevity shapes every collection: precisely engineered and timelessly designed, the pieces are ready to wear for years, not just seasons. The brand duly won the prestigious Swiss Fair Fashion Award 2025 in recognition of its holistic approach to circular fashion.

Muntagnard’s founders embrace a “Swiss by design” philosophy defined by clarity and restraint rather than aesthetics alone. This approach extends to select Swiss International Air Lines long-haul flights, where business class passengers receive an exclusive LEGNA sleep shirt. The gift celebrates both the brand’s values and Switzerland’s enduring design heritage.
