The hotelier
Switching seamlessly between mountain resorts and his lakeside home, hotelier Lorenz Maurer demands more from his life – and his car. “Time is the new luxury,” he says.
While many jobs have become increasingly online, the hotel industry is one that relies on showing up in person. “It’s a people business,” says Lorenz Maurer, area manager of Beaumier in Switzerland. “I have to take care of my employees so that they can take care of our guests.” Maurer leads a team of 94 at a mountain resort in the Jungfrau Region, where half a metre of snow can fall in a matter of hours. “For these occasions, you just need a car that you can trust,” he says. The Range Rover Autobiography, with its 4.4-litre V8 engine, all-wheel drive and sumptuously appointed interior, allows Maurer to travel effortlessly between work and home – whatever the weather.

Quality of life
After almost two decades managing hotels in the US and returning regularly to Europe, Maurer is particular about international hospitality and travel. “For me, it must be seamless,” he says. “It’s mind-boggling that it takes 10 minutes to check-in at the front desk of some hotels. Time, after all, is the new luxury.”

On hot summer evenings, when blizzards are a distant memory, Maurer is keen to maximise that luxury. “If there’s no event, I’m done with work by five or six and I drive down to meet my wife,” he says. “After a crazy day, there is nothing more relaxing than being out on a pristine mountain lake. This is quality of life.”

The economist
Cynthia Hansen reimagined corporate philanthropy as a dynamic model of social innovation. With partnerships in more than 60 countries, she is constantly on the road.
When Cynthia Hansen left the World Economic Forum in 2017, she was invited to set up the Adecco Group’s first global foundation. What began as an internal wellbeing initiative grew into a blueprint for tackling global challenges. By late 2021, the organisation had rebranded as the Innovation Foundation and rebuilt its governance with diverse global voices. Rather than hoarding IP, Hansen was adamant that this methodology should be shared with the world. “It is a signifier that you’re a bold and courageous company,” she says. “We want to be known for this new model of philanthropy.”

Dynamic results
Collaborations with partner organisations take Hansen everywhere from Mexico to Korea. “I schedule my travel so that I have enough time on the ground,” she says. “Talking to colleagues and seeing dynamics in action give you more than you can get from simply analysing statistics.”
While long-haul flights and train rides are a regular feature of Hansen’s working life, she treasures time behind the wheel. “When I was driving this morning, I was reflecting on our strategic process and mapping out verticals,” she says. “I wouldn’t have had the luxury to do that if I was madly answering my emails. A different kind of thinking happens when you drive – and I need to create more time for that.”

The gallerist
In the art world, it’s important to arrive in style and leave an impression. “Art is a luxury,” says gallery owner Anna Högl. “It always requires an exclusive experience.”
As the stepdaughter of the renowned artist and Solaris production designer Mikhail Romadin, Anna Högl was surrounded by creativity from an early age. However, masters degrees in anthropology and international relations have given her a unique perspective on a global roster of talent. Högl regularly jets off across Europe, Asia and the Middle East to cultivate relationships for her two galleries, Bern’s Dreiviertel and Studio Naegeli in Gstaad, as well as curating shows in Munich and Milan.

Trusted stories
“It is very important to meet people in person, especially in the field of art, where everything is subjective, complex and sensitive,” she says. “You really need to know who you are working with and get a feel for a person, not only to understand what their art is about but also to see if there is a match professionally and on a human level.”

When prospective clients are flying in on tight schedules, presentation is paramount. Luckily, Högl has this down to a fine art. “You must build trust and follow certain codes but art is also pure freedom,” she says. “Driving a luxurious car is part of that story.”
In the extended comfort of the seven-seat Range Rover Autobiography, refinement exists beyond what is visible. Subtle touches such as Active Road Noise Cancellation and Cabin Air Purification offer a sense of calm as you travel, while Hot Stone Massage seating ensures that clients arrive feeling relaxed after every journey.
