Museum side table
This Museum sidetable was designed by the Stockholm-based TAF Studio for Sweden’s Nationalmuseum as part of its reopening in 2018. Put into production by String Furniture, this height-adjustable tabletop is made of fine textured and coated aluminium and steel. Available in olive exclusively for Monocle.
Sweden-based String Furniture is known for its elegant practicality. Fielding designs such as the String bookshelf, created by Kajsa and Nisse Strinning in 1949, the brand has long had Monocle’s seal of approval – String Furniture pieces appear in our London café and shop.
The Monocle Book of Designers on Sofas
Monocle meets 50 celebrated designers from across the globe who get cosy on their couches (with their pets, partners and children) and tell us about their sofa choices – why they designed it, why they chose it, how they use it. They reveal fresh insights into their work, their lives, their passions and their style. Original photographic portraits and in-depth interviews transport us into the homes of some of our favourite creatives. We also take you on a fascinating journey that starts at an English country house in 1675 to find out about the 350-year history of the sofa. And we have compiled an illustrated guide to 100 of the most iconic examples, representing the best from 125 years of settee design. Take a seat and join the conversation.
Tyrolean leather shoes
Handmade in Tokyo’s Asakusa district, these shoes from Japanese brand Tep_P offer a laid-back answer to the loafer. Working closely with Tep_P’s artisans, Monocle made a number of exclusive alterations, including the use of a rich chestnut colour for this suede option. The shoes also feature a lightweight Vibram sole and no extra interior linings for a more natural feel.
Operating out of a small workshop in Tokyo’s Asakusa district, Tep_P was founded by shoe designer Teppei Yoshimi to offer more relaxed footwear to step out in. Drawing on his experience as CEO of shoe brand Rendo, Yoshimi keeps things comfortable but sharp for the discerning customer.
