Thailand: The Monocle Handbook

Travel trousers

Monocle’s travel trousers are made from premium worsted wool sourced from centuries-old Italian mill Vitale Barberis Canonico. A semi-elasticated waistband accommodates those on the move, while two pleat and welt back pockets add a touch of sophistication to these versatile navy trousers. Pair them with our matching Teba jacket. Both pieces are thermo regulating and anti-crease making them perfect companions for the road.

Tyrolean leather shoes

Handmade in Tokyo’s Asakusa district, these shoes from Japanese brand Tep_P offer a laid-back answer to the loafer. Working closely with Tep_P’s artisans, Monocle made a number of exclusive alterations, including the use of a soft beige colour for this suede option. The shoes also feature a lightweight Vibram sole and no extra interior linings for a more natural feel.

Operating out of a small workshop in Tokyo’s Asakusa district, Tep_P was founded by shoe designer Teppei Yoshimi to offer more relaxed footwear to step out in. Drawing on his experience as CEO of shoe brand Rendo, Yoshimi keeps things comfortable but sharp for the discerning customer.

All-season work jacket

This classic all-season work jacket is made in Portugal from pure-cotton twill and features corozo buttons. Designed by our in-house team, the exclusive look was created for writers and artists in need of a place to stow away notebooks. There are five pockets in all, including one internal option. Available in navy and olive. 

Quilted jacket

This quilted jacket features Lavenham’s classic diamond pattern in a nod to the brand’s origins. Founded in 1969, Lavenham has over 50 years of quilting expertise and still crafts every item in their Suffolk factory. Originally designed for horse riding, Lavenham’s durable, practical designs have become modern wardrobe staples. Made in England and available in beige or dark olive, the jacket’s cotton and A-line cut lend it a lightweight feel. With a water-resistant finish, it’s ideal for braving rough weather in comfort and style.

Salone del Mobile Special 2026

A must-read for design lovers, Monocle’s annual Salone del Mobile Special provides news, insight and analysis ahead of the industry’s biggest event in Milan. The Berliner-size newspaper covers stories from across the globe – from a partnership between Italian tile-makers and a US art foundation to the Spanish brand reviving the Eames’ modular architecture and the Japanese designer breathing new life into a Lombard icon. Plus, for those attending the fair and Milan Design Week, there’s a host of recommendations for the best spots to eat and drink, as well as tips for roadtrips beyond the city.

Large takeaway cup

Choose this 350ml takeaway cup by Berlin-based Kaffeeform, complete with Monocle branding. Made from coffee grounds sourced from Berlin cafés and roasteries, this cup is shatterproof, light and free of petroleum-based plastics, BPA and melamine. Comes with two lids: one for on-the-go drinking and another fully sealable option.

Berlin-based design studio Kaffeeform’s mission is in its name: turning coffee grounds into takeaway cups. Sourcing coffee waste from cafés and roasteries around the city, Kaffeeform’s products are long-lasting, pleasingly light and even carry a scent of roasted coffee.  

Braided belt

Exclusive to Monocle’s continental collection, this braided belt is made in Japan’s only remaining kaku-obi weaving factory. Once popular throughout the country, these factories used the same techniques for martial arts belts, including for Japan's famous judo champions. Monocle’s iteration is available in orange, olive or navy and features cow-leather details and buckle.
