Monocle Mediterraneo Newspaper 2022

As the mercury rises in the northern hemisphere, our Berliner-style summer newspaper, Monocle Mediterraneo, makes its triumphant return. Our sun-seeking editors and shutterbugs have been criss-crossing the Mediterranean to find the businesses, brands and desirable destinations you need to know about this summer. We beat a path to the new sunbelt cities, checked out urban cooling in Cairo and met the cash cows (and goats and sheep) behind the European cheese industry. In the paper's pages you'll also find plenty of reliable recommendations, hot spots to escape to and fashion finds to see you through the season.

Issue 144

Our jubilant June issue is an artful thing indeed. Not least for its dedicated survey on the best auctions, gallery openings, studios and collectors sculpting the creative scene. We also eye up Iraq's unlikely tourism play, profile the folks behind Japan's will-they-won't-they Olympics and get a first look at LVMH's stunning makeover of an iconic Parisian department store. There's also a transport theme speeding through the issue, from our exploration of the future of flight and choice insights on supersonic travel and e-planes to the urban infrastructure improvements we're betting on and insights into the fast-escalating business of lifts. Not to mention recommendations, recipes and fresh reporting aplenty.

Issue 174

In our latest issue, we report from Basel, Carthage, Paris, Tokyo and beyond to find out precisely what it takes to make it onto the winners' podium, regardless of your chosen field. We profile the designers crafting the future, from the brains behind Danish electronics company Bang *&* Olufsen to an Italian expat spearheading Mallorca's creative rebirth. We also meet the rising stars of the Venice Art Biennale and the Olympians going for gold at Paris 2024 – as well as the mayor working to ensure that the Games will bring lasting change to the French capital. Elsewhere, we tour the Luxembourg freeport, survey key global-affairs flashpoints and go behind the scenes at Chanel with its president of fashion, Bruno Pavlovsky.

Issue 160

Monocle's February issue is all about celebrating places that work, whether that's a parliament, home or metro carriage. From a floating office to a school teaching children the rules of the road, we profile the locations that look good and work well for those who use them. Plus: Charleston's hospitality boom and why you should learn Russian.

A Nobel Cause

In celebration of 51 years of the Nobel Memorial prize in economic sciences, A Nobel Cause gives an overview of the 84 winning Laureates and their influence on global society. It builds excitement around economics by talking to the Laureates and unpacking their theories. From a pioneer in the field of economics of climate change to the Israeli psychologist who changes the way we think about thinking, the winners stories make for an incredible diverse read.

Issue 170

Seeking inspiration for the year ahead? Look no further. The tips in Monocle's February issue won't include the played-out aphorisms you'll find out elsewhere – no green smoothies here. Instead, we present 20 ideas that you can adopt for your business, city or travel plans that are sure to improve your quality of life. From the studio to rebrand your firm to the car to drive and hammam to relax in, all will help you hit your stride in 2024.

November 2024 – Issue 178

Itching for bigger ideas, wiser words, better leaders? Monocle's new issue does the trick: flick open our pages for a refreshing sojourn to Paris's bookshops, an insight into Johannesburg's hard-nosed urbanism and a sit-down with the creative director who turned Bally's fortunes around. Plus: step into the Catalan neighbourhood on the up, hear from screenwriters, diplomats and chef-patrons on the meaning of home, and how the Finns are preparing for uncertain times ahead. There's colour, drama and a commitment to a sharper future – Monocle's November issue is here.

Break bread at both new and established bistros, visit luxury ateliers with a discerning eye for design and check in to Paris’s most storied hotels and metropolitan boltholes. Plus: we toast the nation’s vineyards, the cultural spots honouring France’s artistic heritage and the plucky retailers setting up shop in the country’s second cities. Fancy staying a while longer? We'll take you through the places in which to linger, should you wish to put down roots. France is the world’s most visited country, and for good reason.
