Monocle Alpino Newspaper 2022

Monocle is heading to high altitude with the latest edition of our Berliner-size winter newspaper, Monocle Alpino. From Europe's mountaneous peaks to its Arctic fronteers – all the way to the Alaskan wilderness – our correspondents, reporters and photographers have been dispatched to snowy locales to bring you an on-point selection of cold-weather news. Leaf through these pages and you'll find out about the businesses that thrive when the thermometer plummets, the destinations to add to your itinerary and a few retailers to stock up on the way. Our festive paper takes in anything from how to behave with a bear to Switzerland's cosiest cabins – with culture tips, fashion picks and delectable dining recommendations to make the most of the holidays.

Issue 168

Are you sitting comfortably? Monocle's autumn design bonanza profiles the best new chairs, tables and accessories available this season, interviews architectural luminaries including Renzo Piano and hits the road in Czechia to meet the makers forging a new gold standard in craft. We also assess France's waning influence in Africa and unlock the secrets of the world's safest safes.

March 2025 – Issue 181

In Monocle's Property Survey special, we meet architects, developers and designers for a masterclass in building better cities and homes. Join us as we explore everything from car-free communities in the US and a creative-arts estate in Australia to a revamped neighbourhood in Bangkok. Plus: we meet the man in charge of the Panama Canal, check in with the global textile trade and take a seat at some of the world's best late-night restaurants. It promises to be a whistle-stop tour – come along for the ride.

Issue 156

Monocle has its eyes on new frontiers, from health-tech breakthroughs in France to growing coffee in Sicily. Refreshed and revitalised from a summer break, we get back to work in three new media HQs and meet Dries Van Noten. Plus: the thinkers and fighters plotting Ukraine's renaissance.

The Monocle Book of Photography: Reportage From Places Less Explored

Back in 2007 the first issues of Monocle magazine hit newsstands and kiosks around the globe. At its core was a pledge to commission all original photography capturing the world on film, on the ground and in the moment. In the years since, Monocle has continued in its pursuit of documenting through its unique lens from embassies and personal residences to world leaders and cultural stars. Each issue has featured a dedicated image-led Expo section celebrating lesser-known locales, obscure events and curious characters through truly outstanding photography. Syrian cities, French legionnaires, Thai festival goers, brutalist architecture and private member’s clubs have all graced the pages of the magazine. The Monocle Book of Photography draws on the best of these visual stories from an archive a decade and a half in the making. A handsomely produced linen-bound edition, the book also features original reporting about each of the assignments, as well as first-hand accounts from the photographers and editors involved.

Salone del Mobile Special 2023

Salone del Mobile, the world's premier furniture fair, returned to its regular slot in the design calendar this year – and Monocle's special-edition newspaper provided an indispensable snapshot of the industry in 2023 and beyond. From interviews with the people who defined the look and feel of this year's fair to the products and trends that are breaking new ground, this packed Berliner-sized paper is ideal for immersing yourself in the latest news or catching up with the latest designs from afar.

Issue 145

Monocle's summery, bumper-sized July/August double issue includes the annual Quality of Life index and insights on the 20 best cities to call home (and why). Within our liveability index, our editors surveyed the cities that stayed resilient, invested in liveability and made a splash despite setbacks. Elsewhere in the issue, we hear from expert essayists, benchmark the best roadside services and examine a few choice residences that put their occupants first. Plus: the people running beachside businesses in Greece, a summer soundtrack and a few choice hotels that have thrown open their doors in London, Beirut and La Paz, Mexico. This is an issue packed with sunny ideas, insights and suggestions.

Issue 148

The perfectly formed November issue of Monocle is a design special that puts the brands, architects and products you need to know in the frame. We also visit a Gio Ponti masterwork in Paris and discuss the merits of concrete and its impact on the environment. Plus: bangers in Berlin and why Lisbon is the new Leblon. On newsstands 21 October.
