Alpine vest

Made by the brand Maison Douillet, which usually only collaborates with local French manufacturers and artisans, this Alpine vest has been adapted exclusively for Monocle. Spot the additional inner pocket, along with natural horn-tip buttons from a Jura artisan and a co-branded interior label. The material is worthy of note too: the vest is made from merino virgin wool that was woven in Austria, along with an organic cotton-poplin lining.

Founded in the French Alps by brothers Clément and Germain Douillet, this brand specialises in contemporary Alpine and rural workwear pieces. Emphasis is placed on the provenance of each garment – the Douillets make a point of only working with local manufacturers and artisans.

Ripstop down vest

From North America’s leading specialists in down-garment making, this ripstop vest is crafted with high-grade white goose down. Featuring an exclusive colour combination designed only for Monocle by Crescent Down Works, it features a double zipper, a wind-resistant nylon shell and deep, down-padded pockets.

Established in Seattle in 1974, Crescent Down Works specialises in down vests. The label’s founder, Anne Michelson, was once hired by premium outerwear brand Eddie Bauer to set up its first down-testing laboratory. Michelson used her specialities to start her own business, which has since then produced a sophisticated range of made-to-order outerwear. Now helmed by Michelson’s daughter Annie, each of the label’s pieces is handcrafted by a team of skilled seamstresses in the brand’s Seattle atelier.
