Chapter 1

The US returns to the moon

Cover art for The Briefing

An uncrewed rocket has launched from Cape Canaveral to send a robotic spacecraft towards the moon. The Peregrine lander is carrying five scientific instruments for Nasa. If the craft successfully touches down on the lunar surface, it will be the first US mission to do so since the 1970s. Astronomer and science writer David Whitehouse explains to Monocle’s Vincent McAviney why there is so much renewed interest in returning to the moon.
