Of all the issues raised by this election that could have an impact on the rest of the world, the economy is the biggest – and the scariest. Economic decisions in the US can have an outsized influence elsewhere: if the US is motoring along nicely, so are the rest of us; if the wheels fall off there, the crash will be felt elsewhere too.
