How ‘elections’ work in Europe’s last dictatorship

The last time Belarussians went to the polls for any elections of real significance, it was to re-elect their long-time president Alexander Lukashenko. But soon after, any protest and dissent were brutally suppressed. In Sunday’s parliamentary elections the four parties that vociferously backed Mr Lukashenko were the only names on the ballot. Exiled Belarusian journalist Hanna Liubakova gives an insight into what life is like for people in Europe’s last dictatorship.
