With the Olympic torch now lit in Greece, Paris is making final preparations for this summer’s Games. But there are growing concerns that the opening ceremony – which, for the first time, will not be in a stadium – could be vulnerable to attack. Under the current plans, there will be a flotilla of boats and barges on the Seine, allowing the whole city to enjoy the spectacle. However, because of security issues, particularly related to drones, alternative plans are now being assessed.
