China struggles with the Tiananmen Square massacre’s 35th anniversary
Chinese and Hong Kong authorities have arrested or put under surveillance several dissidents before the 35th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre this week. Meanwhile, espionage allegations between China and Western countries have long been a feature of politics but it is rare for Beijing to draw attention to a spying incident, as China’s Ministry of State Security has just done: a Chinese married couple has been arrested after being accused of working for the UK’s MI6.
