Why Nato is putting its nuclear arsenal on standby

Jens Stoltenberg, the head of Nato, says that because of the growing threat from Russia and China, the alliance is in talks to deploy more nuclear weapons, taking them out of storage and placing them on standby. This comes as the latest report by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons shows that the world’s nine nuclear-armed states spent $10.7bn (€10bn) more on their arsenals in 2023 than in the year before.
