Japanese owned 7-Eleven is one of the world’s largest convenience-store businesses, with more than 84,000 outposts across 19 countries. The firm has received a buyout offer from Montréal-based Alimentation Couche-Tard, itself already the owner of 16,700 shops. If the deal goes ahead, it could be the biggest foreign takeover in Japan, following a softening of the rules around company acquisitions.
