Malaria has long been prevalent throughout Egyptian civilisation and is thought to have even felled Tutankhamun. But now Egypt has been certified as a nation free of the disease, after nearly a century of work to eradicate it. But despite the success of a vaccine, public-health bodies will have to stay vigilant.
