Many German Christmas markets are having to increase their security measures following the Magdeburg Christmas market attack last year. On December 20, 2024 Taleb al-Abdulmohsen drove a car into the crowded open-air market, killing six people and injuring over 300. The city of Halle has experienced a terror attack back in October 2019 during the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur when a Synagogue and Turkish restaurant were attacked by a far right gun man resulting in 2 fatalities.
