Culture

Morgan Library & Museum, Murray Hill
The 2022 addition of a public garden to the Morgan Museum has elevated its standing. The museum’s eclectic collection of rare manuscripts and Old Master paintings – assembled by banker JP Morgan in the early 20th century – are displayed in exhibitions throughout the year.
Neue Galerie, Upper East Side
Located in the beautiful William Starr Miller mansion beside Central Park, the Neue Galerie shines light on early 20th-century German and Austrian art and culture, from exhibits on Gustav Klimt to Egon Schiele. Plus, the strudel in Café Sabarsky is not to be missed.

Brooklyn Academy of Music, Fort Greene
Popularly known as BAM, this multi-arts venue is housed in a century-old renaissance revival building in downtown Brooklyn. It hosts art exhibitions, avant garde dance, theatre, musical performances and film screenings. Its opulent Howard Gilman Opera House is a must-see.
Metrograph, Lower East Side
Despite having just two screens, Metrograph easily rivals the city’s larger cinemas and film centres. Metrograph’s packed calendar includes new releases, classics and obscure retrospectives, while its restaurant and two bars are ideal for post-screening drinks.

Lévy Gorvy Dayan, Upper East Side
Located in a beautifully preserved beaux-arts townhouse, private gallery Lévy Gorvy Dayan exhibits 20th and 21st-century artists ranging from modern luminaries, such as Andy Warhol, to up-and-coming contemporary sculptors and painters.
