A few places to stop off for fine wares, sharp tailoring and smart shoes.

Irenaeus Kraus, Neubau
This shop sells antique anatomical and botanical charts, maps and a wide selection of vintage posters and placards. Works from the Vienna Secession era, including those by Gustav Klimt and Otto Wagner, are especially prized. After perusing the collection, grab a coffee at Café Comet across the street.

Rosa Mosa, Neubau
The design duo of Austrian Simone Springer and Japanese Yuji Mizobuchi – known collectively as Rosa Mosa – met while studying fashion in London. The pair runs a beautiful and carefully curated selection of womenswear, accessories and shoes for both women and men, all displayed in their handsome shop in the 7th district.

MĂĽhlbauer, Innere Stadt and Neubau
This institution of Vienna milliners has two outposts in the 1st and 7th districts, and the express aim of making hats an everyday accessory once more. The range includes everything from Alpine hunting hats and fedoras to merino-wool flat caps and rabbit-fur headwarmers.

J&L Lobmeyr, Innere Stadt
This company’s lavish, ornate chandeliers have adorned some of the grandest palaces, cafés and hotels in Vienna and beyond for two centuries. Its glassware range features drinking sets designed by luminaries such as Josef Hoffmann and Adolf Loos. The shop on Kärntner Strasse is a little museum in and of itself.

Dantendorfer, Innere Stadt
Dantendorfer offers menswear and womenswear from brands such as Antonelli, Carlo Piombo and Aspesi. Founded in 1948 in Salzburg, the shop has shifted from its initial focus on sportswear (a nod to Austria’s skiing culture) to place the emphasis squarely on fashion, including its own line of relaxed wear.

Glein, Neubau
Glein began in 2017 with furniture alongside shoes (its launch model, the Derby, remains a staple). Bags and clothing soon followed. For its founder, Sebastian Leitinger, sustainability has always been key – from ethically sourced materials to European-based production and in-house repairs.

Jarosinski & Vaugoin, Neubau
Jarosinski & Vaugoin crafts everything from cufflinks to traditional dinnerware, all made on-site in a backroom atelier. Jean-Paul Vaugoin is usually on hand to assist. For more silver, Wiener Silber Manufactur has upheld a similarly distinguished reputation for cutlery since 1882.

Ludwig Reiter and Rudolf Scheer & Söhne, Innere Stadt
Launched in 1885, footwear specialist Ludwig Reiter makes everything from dapper brogues to slip-ons, all available at its two shops in the 1st district. Nearby is Rudolf Scheer & Söhne, the city’s oldest shoemaker. Like Ludwig Reiter, Scheer footwear is an investment that will last a lifetime.

Augarten Porzellan, Leopoldstadt
Handmade for the past three centuries, Augarten porcelain is among Europe’s oldest. Renowned for its bespoke patterns, ranging from floral motifs to the geometric precision of Jugendstil, every piece is crafted in a breathtaking baroque palace in the eponymous park.

Saint Charles Apothecary, Mariahilf
Founder Alexander Ehrmann hails from a long line of pharmacists. His ornate apothecary on Gumpendorfer Strasse is filled with homemade herbal remedies alongside the usual medicines that you’d expect from a modern chemist. Saint Charles also sells its own cosmetics and soaps.
