This is founder Mats Klingberg’s third outpost and his first outside London. Cosying up to our café – and part of the extended Monocle family – the Zürich address combines products from both Trunk Clothiers and Trunk Labs. In-house boxers and bags sit alongside Drake’s ties, Begg & Co scarves and Ichizawa Hanpu totes. The goods are testament to Klingberg’s fine taste and hail from only the best Japanese, Scandinavian, German and Italian makers.

This shop offers functional and decorative homeware from producers that focus on arts and crafts or traditional methods of design and construction. Expect ceramics from Therese Müller, tools by Dutch brand Sneeboer and more.

Zürich-based publishing house Park Books and its big sister Scheidegger & Spiess joined forces to open this design-savvy bookshop in 2017. The well-stocked shelves cover photography, design, art and architecture and it’s not just in-house titles that feature, although they do represent a healthy portion of the stock. 

The selection takes in everything from urban-planning in Kyoto to the history of Swiss typography and graphic design in North Korea. Across the cracked tiles and up a few steps there’s also a small selection of fiction. Publications are in a mix of languages, including English and German.

Zürich-based menswear brand and retailer Pelikamo has garnered a loyal following for its “Made in Italy” pieces, which span classic blazers, knitwear and shoes. It opened in 2011, later expanding to include a tailoring atelier on Claridenstrasse and an outpost in Basel. “We wanted to get away from short-term fashion trends and mass production,” says co-founder Mia Zeltner. 

When the time came to revamp this space, it was executed with Swiss precision. “We tackled the process in the same way we design a garment: creating style sheets and discussing every detail,” says co-founder Sebastiaan Vadasz. This spring the team behind Pelikamo opened Maison Miaki, dedicated to fine womenswear, next door at number 9.

Hanspeter Limacher and Marcel Hofmann opened this dishy space in 2004 with the aim of showcasing international brands that were previously absent from the Swiss market. The emphasis is on classic clothing – with collections from Margaret Howell, Sofie D’Hoore and Officine Générale filling the rails – though you can also find eccentric items from brands such as APC. The duo have a second space, Red by The Apartment Store, across the Sihl on Badenerstrasse.
