Park life

Ohori is one of the most popular parks in Fukuoka, a tranquil green space with a large boating pond and a 2km jogging and cycling route. The park has a long history – it was built in 1929 around a manmade lake that was once part of the moat of Fukuoka castle. Today it is also home to the Fukuoka Art Museum, a Noh theatre and a Japanese garden. Thousands flock to the park each spring to picnic under the cherry blossoms and again in the summer for the annual firework display when 6,000 fireworks are launched from an island in the middle of the water.
