Dubbed the greatest outdoor show on earth, for 10 days every July the 105-year-old summer festival Calgary Stampede takes over the Canadian city. Centred around the main attraction, the rodeo, Stampede brings to life traditions from the old west, with events like chuckwagon races in the grandstand stadium. But Stampede is far more than just cowboys battling for the coveted champion title. Everything from rides to aboriginal and Bollywood dancing, alongside other cultural activities, can be experienced on Stampede’s grounds. Monocle correspondent Sheena Rossiter reports.
