US photographer Gregory Crewdson’s images of seemingly everyday American scenes tend to be nothing of the sort. The artist and image-maker’s shoots are famous for relying on a team and budget more familiar to small Hollywood films and the result is an otherworldly take on normality. He speaks to Monocle’s Tom Hall about his show at London’s Photographers’ Gallery: ‘Cathedral of the Pines’.
