Oxen, Küsnacht
Oxen, close to the shores of Lake Zürich, was founded by Monocle chairman Tyler Brûlé and associates Markus Binkert, Thomas Maechler and Marc Wegenstein. It offers seven comfortable rooms in the spirit of the traditional gasthof (inn) and decorated in a minimalist Swiss style. The two-bedroom Monocle Suite is located on the top floor of the space, ideal for a long weekend getaway, and the modern kitchen serves reimagined classics. Guests can also enjoy a meal or a glass of wine in the vine-covered garden.
Signau House, Seefeld
Zürich’s smallest hotel doesn’t feel like a hotel at all. Three local families bought the two-storey aristocratic mansion in 2018 and renovated it to create a discreet location where guests are removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. Swiss urban-planning firm Edelaar Mosayebi Inderbitzin helmed the redesign, creating nine guest rooms, a lounge with an open fire and a 25-seat cinema. Plus, the property is just a short walk from The Monocle Shop and Café.

Storchen, Altstadt
Occupying a prized spot along the river Limmat in central Zürich, Storchen is a bastion of Swiss hospitality and opulence. The hotel’s name originates from the building’s first written record, which mentioned two storks perched atop the roof. The hotel’s 64 rooms and two restaurants were renovated in 2017, including the Michelin-starred La Rôtisserie and ever-popular Barchetta Bar. The location sets Storchen apart from other five-star hotels in the city: the Signature Suite has views of both the river and lake.
