Mufi Hannemann

After graduating from Havard, Hannemann was a history teacher at Iolani School, Hawaii, before entering government service as a special assistant to President Jimmy Carter, working with the US Department of the Interior. Hannemann was recalled to Honolulu to become special assistant to Governor of Hawaii George Ariyoshi before returning to the White House to serve as staff assistant to then Vice President George W Bush. In 1994, Hannemann was elected to the Honolulu City Council and served as council chairman from 1998 to 1999. Hannemann has been Mayor of Honolulu since 2005.
