606 Universal Shelving System
A tidy office equates to a tidy mind and finding an intelligent, long-lasting shelving system is integral to keeping your affairs in order. Danish furniture dealer Niels Wiese Vitsœ founded his eponymous furniture line with German industrial designer Dieter Rams in 1959. Rams was working for the Braun brothers and in 1961 he became its head designer, but it allowed him this sideline with Vitsœ. In 1960 he created the 606 shelving system for the company (it was his sixth design in 1960, hence the name). His modular invention has become a modern classic; its bespoke concept allows the buyer to customise their space with shelves and cabinets with drawers or doors. If you buy the system in the UK, ask for Geof Howe – he’s a whizz with an alan key.
