Do not disturb

One year on and we’ve raided enough hotel minibars to sink a Stena Liner. We think it’s time for the hospitality industry to take stock on the stock take.

Bending down to break the security strip on a noisy mini-fridge is far from dignified, so we curated our own selection of in-room imbibements with the help of Gerry’s Spirits and Vintage House in London, and our favourite bar manager Kenichi Kakuta at Sake No Hana: “Some simple spirits and mixers are enough to see you through – Bloody Marys are about as complicated as it should get.” And there’s always room for some genki liveners for the morning after.

Our top five tips to hoteliers:

1.
A full complement of glasses and accessories.

2.
What’s wrong with full-size bottles of wine? You have the inventory.

3.
Fair tariffs – no charges for water, please.

4.
Flash freezers and in-room ice makers are a must.

5.
Everything, preferably, at eye-level. No one wants to crouch to quaff.
