Hotels
Hotel de Mar Gran Meliá, Illetes
Opened in 1964, this hotel is contained in the only building on Mallorca designed by the late, great Spanish modernist architect José Antonio Coderch. Its exterior is covered in glazed brown tiles, which has earned it the nickname of “hotel de chocolate”. It’s on the outskirts of the city, affording it a stunning spot on the sea and a swathe of lush grounds with pools and a beach club. The rooms all have terraces with water views. For a proper holiday experience, hire the Riva boat.

Can Bordoy, La Llotja-Born
Owner Mikael Hall turned a former palace into this five-star hangout with the help of architects Ohlab, one of the best practices in Spain. There are 24 rooms and suites decorated with rich fabrics and equipped with totally mirrored bathrooms. Plus, the hotel offers spa services, the Botànic restaurant and an in-house bar. Not counting the best garden in the heart of Palma with its centuries-old trees and a discreet pool.

Cap Rocat, Cala Blava
Housed in an ancient fortress on the cliffs, this hotel is surrounded by wild nature yet it’s just 15 minutes by car from central Palma. Its masterly transformation from military outpost to grand lodgings was overseen by owner-architect Antonio Obrador. The property now features a jaw-dropping spa along with numerous courtyards and terraces, impeccable guest rooms and top dining experiences. For a sublime lunch or dinner, book a table at Sea Club, which looks out over the Bay of Palma.

Portella, Monti-Sion
Opened in 2024, this hotel is in a 17th-century palace in the Old Town, minutes from the cathedral. Gras Reynés Arquitectos and Festen Studio were commissioned to create a private space free of Mediterranean clichés. There’s a small gym, rooftop terrace and a chef to take care of your gastronomic needs.
