Hotels
Grand Hôtel, Norrmalm
Perched on the waterfront facing the Royal Palace, the Grand Hôtel has been Stockholm’s top accommodation since 1874. We recommend the Ingrid Bergman suite, which features chandeliers and pastel-green walls. During summer, book a spot at chef Mathias Dahlgren’s terrace restaurant, Ute, for a light snack and refreshing glass of wine. In winter, head inside to restaurant Verandan for a first-rate smörgåsbord.

Hotel Skeppsholmen, Skeppsholmen
This low-slung yellow stucco building on the island of Skeppsholmen was built in 1699 to house the king’s elite guard before being converted into a hotel in 2009. Book a room on the top floor, which is furnished with wood-beamed ceilings and deep-set windows. Make sure to sample husmanskost (homecooking) at restaurant Långa Raden – the meatballs with lingonberry jam are a classic – before relaxing in the garden’s sunloungers or playing a few sets at the waterside tennis court.
Stockholm Stadshotell, Södermalm
The 32-room Stockholm Stadshotell hits all the right notes: an ideal location in the heart of buzzy Södermalm; excellent food, including the fried-chicken sandwich with pommes pailles at Bistro; and superb cocktails served at Bar. The guest rooms showcase the best in understated yet inviting Swedish design, with headboards made from birch burl, as well as pine floors and hand-tufted rugs.
