Looking for an escape? Consider these three stunning new hotels from around the world
From a home away from home on a swanky French peninsula to a Venetian island tinged with Cipriani magic, these new escapes will take you to another world.
1.
Locanda Cipriani
Venice
The Cipriani name shall forever be linked with Venice but the brand’s presence extends beyond the city and its canals. On the island of Torcello, 40 minutes by water taxi from the main railway station, is Locanda Torcello – an inn that Harry’s Bar founder Giuseppe Cipriani decided to transform from osteria to travellers’ refuge in the 1940s. After a three-year renovation, it now has reopened. The previous total of six suites is up to 10, each with handcrafted furnishings and Murano glass lamps. In the restaurant, which seats up to 150, patrons can indulge in a refreshing Bellini or a plate of bigoli, a thick pasta tossed with onions and anchovy sauce.

Villa Colette
Cap Ferret, France
For his first property outside Paris, hotelier Laurent Taïeb – who’s known for turning the former Poste du Louvre into the 83-room Madame Rêve – wanted something intimate. The result is Villa Colette on chic French Atlantic enclave Cap Ferret. The building is a belle époque-style coastal villa, complete with patterned brick façade and pointed roofs. The décor, courtesy of Philippe Starck, has the time-steeped feel of a family holiday house – many of the 28 rooms open onto private gardens. Meals are convivial, with chef Benjamin Six creating the likes of crab tacos and sea-bass carpaccio. And thanks to the restaurant’s large glass roof, you can dine beneath the stars year-round, enjoying what Taïeb calls “those dream-like moments of life”.

Patina Osaka
Osaka
Patina Osaka sits across from the city’s castle, in a location that no other property in the vicinity can match. “Usually, the higher you go in a hotel, the better the view,” says Patina’s Jason Lim. “Here, it’s the opposite. The lower you are, the more you come eye to eye with the castle.” The 221-key hotel is a little removed from downtown. The castle informs much of the interior, while the three restaurants use produce grown in the hotel’s garden. After dinner, DJs play in the listening room.
