D-Day is commemorated today. Eighty years ago, 150,000 soldiers landed on the beaches of Normandy for Operation Overlord. It marked a turning point in the Allied campaign to push back the Nazis on the Western Front, liberate France and defeat Germany. Twenty-five world leaders are expected to attend commemoration events but French leaders have not always been keen to mark the anniversary.
