Advertising Director

Monocle is now recruiting for an Advertising Director for its main commercial operation in London.

The Advertising Director will manage the overall advertising business for Monocle across print, digital (monocle.com) and radio (Monocle 24). The ideal candidate will be a seasoned sales leader who will execute an aggressive growth plan for both display and bespoke business across all platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate and mentor the advertising sales team and network of sales representatives to optimise performance and deliver against revenue targets
  • Proactively manage and ensure success at all stages of the sales cycle, including prospecting, formulating ideas and proposals, closing business and servicing accounts
  • Support advertising executives with developing, maintaining and strengthening relationships with key clients and media agencies
  • Collaborate closely with the editorial and creative teams for content alignment and bespoke solutions
  • Recommend new ways to generate greater revenue from new packages and opportunities
  • Develop sales strategy, budgets and projections

Requirements

  • At least five years experience of selling print and digital advertising and/or bespoke solutions
  • Experience of managing and leading a sales team
  • Strong relationships with media agencies and relevant key clients
  • A track record of successfully selling custom solutions and integrated programmes
  • Excellent analytical, creative and presentation skills
  • Robust leadership skills
  • A detail-oriented approach with superior written and verbal communication skills
  • The right to live and work in the UK
  • English fluency essential, other languages an advantage (French, German)

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing all staffing and management for shops (London, New York, Toronto, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore) and café (London).
  • Product development for all collaborations – working with managers to get products into development and production for retail and online.
  • Strategy for pop-ups and concessions.
  • Oversight of wholesale business and growing business development.
  • Development of branding and visual merchandising programmes.
  • Defining brand experience, menu and service style and ensuring consistency between shops and cafés.
  • Development of new retail and F&B formats.

The position is London-based with considerable Asia and North America travel.

Requirements

Our ideal Retail and Hospitality Director will know the focus of our core businesses (magazine, web and radio), understand the power of brand experiences and drive customer loyalty, brand awareness and revenues across both café and retail operations.

You will have significant experience at management level within a premium, service-based organisation: hotel, airline or luxury goods retail. This includes managing multiple outlets, seasonality of demand and an international customer base.

You need to be able to identify areas of change, recommend future actions and manage implementation, as well as demonstrate a strong commitment to balancing the business operation with customers’ needs and Monocle brand values.
