Digital Designer / Front-end Developer

This is an opportunity to join a new expanded digital department that will launch in the coming weeks for the sister companies Monocle and the global design agency Winkreative and be based in London’s Marylebone.

You will work on both global client projects for the agency and also on the new and expanding monocle.com site that is home to Monocle 24, our e-commerce store and over 350 films and slideshows.

We are looking for a Digital Designer / Front-end Web Developer with a balanced skillset of design (Photoshop / UX) and technical skills (mostly HTML5, PHP, jQuery, Javascript). You’ll be a team player who is excited about working in a fast-paced environment and can deliver high-quality work to deadline. We are a growing business with numerous advancement opportunities for the right candidates. Candidates should have the following:

  • High level of digital design ability which can be demonstrated
  • In-depth knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator or Fireworks
  • Good experience (2 years+) in PHP, Javascript, jQuery, AJAX
  • Be very fluent in HTML/CSS/Responsive programming with a pixel-perfect eye for layouts
  • Show understanding of semantic coding and standards
  • Take pride in making your creations function as closely as possible across all browsers

Experience of the Symphony CMS and GitHub is not essential but would be helpful.

As it gears towards extending its opening hours and menu offerings, we are on the hunt for talented part and full time staff for catering and front-of-house. Advertising internship — London

Monocle is offering a full-time internship with the advertising team in our London office.

This internship will be of particular appeal to recent graduates in business or publishing with an interest in the commercial aspects of magazine publishing and sales, including print, digital and broadcast. Assisting with the day-to-day operation of the department, you will have well-developed organisational and research skills, exceptional attention to detail and a passion for luxury brands and media.

In addition to demonstrating a high level of business acumen and commercial sense you'll already have customer service, sales or project-management experience, be able to demonstrate creativity and entrepreneurial flair and be ambitious, forward-thinking and proactive.

Internship

We are looking for several interns for our London HQ to help the editorial team and make sure the office runs smoothly. In addition, the interns will be involved in the work of our radio station Monocle 24, so some radio experience, interest or education will be a distinct advantage.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in current affairs, business and design, and be able to carry out detailed research. English fluency is essential, and other language skills are also desirable.

Working schedules for interns will vary, including very early mornings, late evenings or weekends for radio work. Expenses will be covered.

Monocle films are also looking for a dedicated intern and applicants with camera training and final cut pro editing should highlight their experience in broadcast journalism.

The role of Shop Manager requires excellent customer-service experience, creativity, entrepreneurial flair, Excel knowledge and a proactive approach. The role calls for:

  • Outstanding customer-service and retail-sales experience

  • Daily reports on sales and stock levels
  • Inventory management and reporting
  • Regular updates to HQ regarding stock needs and new deliveries
  • Attention to detail: visual merchandising and the overall look of the shop per HQ guidelines are part of the Shop Manager’s remit
  • Management of the store’s part-time team (scheduling, recruiting etc)
  • Good command of MS Excel

Monocle 24 is looking for a highly motivated radio producer to work on daily radio shows.

The candidate will have a keen journalistic instinct for global and distinctive news stories. Experience with presenting live radio programmes is a definite asset and audio editing experience is also highly desirable. Digital Director

This is a rare opportunity to head up the digital department for Monocle. Based at the businesses’ HQ in London’s Marylebone, we are looking for a highly motivated, creative and technically minded Senior level person with excellent management and personal skills. This role will report to the editor and publishing director of Monocle.

You will oversee a team that has recently worked on the relaunch of our site, monocle.com. We are now extending the ambitions of monocle.com both commercially and editorially and need someone who can work with great accuracy but also the speed needed in a busy, ambitious environment.

You will also help develop our key business areas – advertising, editorial and e-commerce – devise new revenue streams for the business, manage and analyse the site/apps traffic and interpret these figures to help make commercial decisions. You’ll identify on-brand solutions to grow traffic at monocle.com, create advertising proposals for the commercial team and help present these to clients and agencies. You’ll also work with the advertising team to develop new and relevant advertising/sponsorship opportunities and help the editorial team bring the brand to life on the site. We need someone who cares about everything from retail to news.

Skills-wise, you’ll need to demonstrate entrepreneurial and commercial experience, technical understanding and knowledge of how to manage tasks successfully to meet deadlines. You’ll know how to get the best out of people, understand the time-critical needs of a publishing and digital delivery business and demonstrate a problem-solving mindset.
