—Cecily Brown

The Essl museum in Vienna is currently playing host to the work of London-born abstract expressionist painter Cecily Brown. Curated by Silvia Köpf, this is Brown’s first exhibition in Austria, featuring recent drawings and paintings directly from her New York studio. The show offers a panoptic view of the pioneering post-contemporary artist’s varied work throughout the past decade. An der Donau-Au 1, 3400 Klosterneuburg. Open Tuesday to Sunday 10.00-18.00, Wednesday 10.00-21.00. Until 7 October

2. DANCE: HONG KONG

—Asian-Male Episode III

As part of a contemporary dance showcase by Hong Kong’s E-Side Dance Company, six male choreographers from South Korea, Japan and China demonstrate their own repertoire of modern dance moves in Asian-Male Episode III. Each performance is infused with a spirited, masculine energy, yet differentiated by the various backgrounds and dance upbringing of each performer and promise to be jaw dropping.

Theatre, Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre, 11 Clear Water Bay Road, Kowloon. Showing this Saturday at 16.00 and 20.00

3. FOOD & DRINK: NEW YORK

—The Penrose

The Penrose on Manhattan’s Upper East Side opened recently declaring itself a casual local pub, but it seems it’s becoming something of a destination. Irish-born brothers Simon and Mark Gibson, perhaps best known for Wilfie & Nell in the West Village, have put together a menu heavily focused on comfort food. From spicy, buttermilk fried chicken to the classic Penrose burger, this food-driven pub is a very welcome addition to a once sleepy part of town.

1590 2nd Avenue (between 82nd & 83rd Streets). Open Monday to Thursday 15.00- 04.00; Friday to Sunday 13.00-04.00

4. EXHIBITION: BRISTOL

—Unnatural-Natural History

The Unnatural-Natural History exhibition brings together a group of international artists from Mexican-born painter Luis Sanchez to London-based sculptor Kate MccGwire. Nature is the common theme for all the featured artists, who have come to redefine its meaning through art. The undisputed highlights of the show are five chromogenic prints called “Concerning the Soul” by the notorious David LaChapelle.

Royal West of England Academy, Queen’s Road, Clifton. Open Monday to Saturday 09.30-17.30; Sunday 11.00-17.00. Until 23 September

5. MUSIC: GLOBAL

—Frank Ocean: Channel Orange

R&B doesn’t always do it for us, however Frank Ocean’s debut album is something we can’t just leave out. From the opening Thinkin Bout You to the smooth White featuring John Mayer, the 24-year-old, New Orleans-born, LA-based singer-songwriter delivers charming, witty lyrics sung to chilled-out tunes with a hint of synthesised funk. Ocean has contributed to Kanye West and Jay-Z’s “Watch the Throne” and got his buddy Pharrell Williams on board for Channel Orange. With or without a little help from his friends, he’s also great live. Channel Orange is available to download now, in stores on 17 July
