The Olympic torch lands in France
The Olympic torch arrived in Marseille yesterday after a voyage from Olympia in Greece on a 19th-century ship. It was welcomed with huge celebrations and remains in the city today before beginning a 12,000km relay across mainland France and the overseas territories, including Réunion, French Guiana and Polynesia. It’s also a big security challenge with such a distance, a history of protests and a tradition of attempts to extinguish the flame.
