1. AETHOS MONTEROSA
Forget crowded slopes and rowdy après-ski terraces; Aethos Monterosa is a tranquil haven for prioritising health and wellbeing. With its 25-metre heated saltwater pool and individual spa cabins, this is where the well-heeled go to feel well-healed. It’s not all alfresco hot tubs and post-piste reflexology sessions, however. The suave concrete-and-wood lobby is the chicest spot in Champoluc for fireside negronis and sparkling conversation well into the night.
Piste and quiet
Just a two-hour drive from Milan near the Swiss border, Aethos Monterosa is a secluded sanctuary in the Italian Alps.
The gentle après-ski recovery options include a hammam, relaxation room and well-equipped gym with personal trainer.
HIGH POINTS
2. FORESTIS
Inhale a lungful of fresh Alpine air from the rooftop bar at Forestis and you’ll soon realise why this stylish minimalist hotel was once a popular South Tyrol sanatorium. Relaxation is the order of the day here. Fully ski-in, ski-out, Forestis remains at one with its surroundings, thanks to everything from the spa’s spruce body scrubs and in-forest treatments to chef Roland Lamprecht’s amphitheatre-shaped restaurant with uninterrupted views of the Dolomites.
Green house
Forestis prioritises sustainability with zero-waste kitchens, wood-pellet heating and on-site laundry to reduce carbon footprints.
Every room has a “no housekeeping” button. The hotel will plant a tree as a reward for each day that it is pressed.
3. LECRANS
If the slopes of Crans-Montana are the snowy icing on the Swiss Alpine cake, then LeCrans is the cherry on top. Perched almost 1.5km above sea level, this Valais retreat offers elevated living in every sense, from horse-riding paths to year-round boutiques. In fact, the hardest decision to make during your stay is how to best experience the painterly skyline: from the heated outdoor pool or the wraparound balcony of a lush Christophe Decarpentrie-designed suite?
Valais parking
The slopes are just steps away from the terrace at LeCrans; a fleet of Mercedes are on-hand for journeys further afield.
In the hotel’s LeMontBlanc restaurant, chefs can guide guests through the tasting menu at tables beside the open kitchen.
4. GRACE LA MARGNA, ST MORITZ
In the 16th century, Pope Leo X promised acquittal to St Moritz pilgrims. Watch the Bernina peaks reflect in Lake St Moritz’s crystal-blue waters from the comfort of one of Grace La Margna’s 32 suites and you might also feel as if you’d been granted access to heaven. The hotel’s restored 1906 Margna wing blends Molteni&C furniture with art nouveau glamour, while the new Grace wing houses a 700 sq m spa.
Grace notes
Grace La Margna sits along Via Serlas, St Moritz’s luxury shopping mile, home to Cartier, Gucci, Hauser & Wirth and more.
